So, if Leicester hadn’t also had a stellar start to the season, we would have most points in first eleven games since 09/10 (and I have omitted the Covid season).

In those past 13 seasons, only four sides in second place at this stage of season haven’t made play-offs.

Average points to finish in top two in that time has been 89 points (highest 93, lowest 79), and top six has been 74, on average (highest 80, lowest 68).

So….on an average season, which this may not be, we need 1.74 points per game for top two, and 1.31 points per game for top six.

For context, we’re averaging 2.54 ppg at the moment, and 2.27 ppg since start of 22/23 season.

Yes, still very early days, however it’s looking rather positive.

(Errors and omissions excepted!)

That's really interesting - I love a nice stat biscuit with a second cup of coffee after regular breakfast on a Sunday morning.

Interesting that the variability is significantly higher for the top two places (~4 points), compared to 1-2 points for the rest.

In a way it's not that surprising because once you get down into the pack there's more pressure from both ends, but nevertheless it does tend to suggest a little that often two teams break away from the Peleton and start beneficially pushing each other clear.

I'll drink to that.

There was some stat that if Leicester get a point or more in their next game they would have the best start of any side in championship history. So effectively, if we beat Rotherham on the Friday night we will actually set this record, even if its just for a few hours.

Leicester have had the best start to a Championship season after 11 games, and will make it 12 games even if they lose their next game by less than 4 goals if we fail to beat Rotherham. If Leicester draw or lose their next game, we will have the best start after 12 games if we beat Rotherham by 5 goals or more (if Leicester draw), or potentially less than 5 goals if Leicester lose (depending on scoreline)

I have posted more for the statheads over on Nthsuffolkblue's excellent thread...

Statistical comparison with last Championship season by BlueBoots 8 Oct 2023 8:25
Rotherham on TV Friday week! (just in case anyone reading this morning had a few yesterday and buys their train tickets in panic)

Just under a quarter of the way through the season, so as it's the international break a few stats:

Comparison with our last Championship season after the same number of games (still one place above Preston!)

23 Ipswich Town 11 0 5 1 (5 7) 0 1 4 (3 9) -8 6
24 Preston North End 11 1 2 2 (9 10) 0 1 5 (5 14) -10 6

1 Leicester City 11 5 0 1 (10 3) 5 0 0 (13 3) +17 30
2 Ipswich Town 11 5 0 1 (19 11) 4 1 0 (6 2) +12 28

So as well as the Pd 11; PTS +20; GD +20; GF +15 calculated by Nthsuffolkblue which factors in the opposition, we are also Pd 11; PTS +22; GD +20; GF +17 if you just consider the number of games.

For those who would like a comparison with other teams in other seasons, other than Leicester this season, Sheffield United in 05/06 are the only team to have racked up more points (30, level with Leicester) after 11 games.

(Full table here: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/saisonstarts/wettbewerb/GB2 )

Just to put into perspective how good a start we've had to the season, the League One Table after 11 games last season:

1 Plymouth Argyle 11 5 0 0 (8 1) 3 1 2 (11 11) +7 25
2 Ipswich Town 11 3 2 0 (11 5) 4 1 1 (11 5) +12 24

Despite going up a division, we are we are also Pd 11; PTS +4; GD 0; GF +3 on where we were at this stage last year.

And finally, for those who like to track it, yes, we're back on target...projected totals are now 117 Points, 105 Goals [grin]
