Just read that he has announced his retirement. Shame that his career ended on a downward trajectory. Perhaps chasing the big payday in Spain was not a good idea and didn't suit his style of play. Shame, as he was great in the Prem.

Chasing a payday and not suiting his style of play is a questionable view of Hazards move. He went to the then best team in Europe, got injured and never recovered.

Exactly - clearly a step up going to Real Madrid. That said, even moving to Palace would be an upgrade from Chelsea these days…

He never fully recovered from a tackle by Meunier of PSG, which didn't look that bad, but which seriously damaged his ankle.

I don’t think he was in poverty at Chelsea.

It’s a weird take. He went to the most successful club team on the planet. Sure he was paid the big bucks but it was a natural progression for him.
