James O'Brien talking sense on 18:43 - Oct 18 by Lord_Lucan
I put LBC on when I go to bed and leave it running, I can't sleep without a radio on. I drift in and out listening to it until about 6 ish when I start to stir and then listen to most of Ferrari and JOB.
I like listening to opposite views but JOB comes across as one of those tvvats at school that everyone wants to hit.
I used to like listening to Steve Allen, even though he was a pompous old fruit.
I have as long as I remember kept the radio on at night, but depending what is on, I switch between LBC and the World Service as the night progresses during times when I awaken.
These days I like Tom Swarbrick, Ben Kentish, Lewis Goodall and Paul Brand, but they tend to be on later.
I first came across LBC, and the glorious Brian Hayes, when I used to accompany my father on his work trips to London in the mid to late 70s. And I listened to it when I lived in London. It's good that it is now a national station.

Swarbrick is good, as is Iain Dale
I started to listen to it when my dad was in hospital terminally ill, I asked what he was listening to and I took it from there. Must be about 8 years ago.
Before that I used to stay up until 1am for when Mike Parry came on TalkSPORT. As much as I love football I can't listen to the same thing every minute but Parry just talked nonsensical cr4p which I quite liked.
Before that it was Talk Radio

Iain Dale is good, and has a very nice manner, although I tend not to listen to him because of the time he is on.
I also like Clive Bull and the rather quirky Nick Abbott.
LBC rather disappeared in the early 90s, and around thatt time I switched to Radio 5 Live, which had pretty good political coverage, but I've not listened to its non-sports' coverage much in recent years because I felt it became rather bland with too much emphasis on entertainment and the like.
I always wake up to the Today Programme on Radio 4.

Likewise. I very rarely listen to Iain Dale because of the timing, although I sometimes put him on catch up so I don’t have to listen to Nick Abbot - who drives me insane!!
The other one I try and catch up on when Abbot is in the house is Rachael Johnson.
Andrew Castle is good as well IMHO.
If they got rid of Nick Abbot and replaced him with someone like Tommy Boyd then I would be a happy man.

I suppose Abbott is an acquired taste with his various sound effects, and I've only really got into him recently.
Andrew Castle is good too, but for some reason I haven't listened to him much in the last year or so.

It’s interesting that you also can’t sleep without the radio on. I spent years tossing and turning and then started to put the radio on and it makes be sleep well - unless a presenter or the subject is winding me up and it then has the reverse effect.
My Mrs now also has to sleep with radio on.
My dad used to do the same and I can remember back in the 70’s he would listen to what was at the time just basic radio interference as you just couldn’t get a reception from a non musical channel back then. It used to drive Mother nuts listening to crackles all night.
He was a military man and said it dated back from then.
Annoyingly, the more interested I am in a subject the quicker it sends me to sleep. I used to look forward to listening to Nick Pope on TakkSPORT talking about UFO’s but I’d fall asleep in seconds.

Daevid is much better for sleeping to...

That’s pretty cool - but it would keep me awake, probably because I’d be forced to drop something.
I used to go to sleep every night listening to The Wall on a cassette player. One night when I was somewelse going to sleep with no cassette player I still heard it....like full on audio hallucination until my half asleep brain freaked out and forced itself to wake up. No wonder I'm so miserable and a bit World weary.

On the odd occasion, I fall asleep to an Ipswich football podcast, but have found that the Blue Monday podcast wakes me up when the blaring opening music is repeated at the end.
And in the main, I normally drop off to sleep within 5 or 10 minutes whatever I'm listening to.
