Is anyone a member of a union? If so, do you recommend them and do they cover any any profession? Engineers, designers etc.

Thanks.

Rubbish, you can't generalise by suggesting all employees are out to exploit.

Yes you can.
Happy to help.

They’re not all out to exploit. But they will always put the needs of their business ahead of the employee. That’s probably a subtle difference from the point of view of employees of course, as the end result can feel the same.

The only thing that puts me off is that every union rep(s) anywhere I’ve worked have always been weirdos or pillocks. They serve a valuable purpose though.

Perhaps I was the exception that proves the rule!

100% recommend.

Without Unison, I’d have been sacked for “non-attendance” at work despite medical certs and a written letter from a hospital consultant saying I was unfit to work as a result of several strokes.

Unison took my case to tribunal, and my employer’s’ claim was dismissed before the tribunal had even started, as soon as the rep showed them the medical certs. I was unfit to even travel to the Tribunal, and had Unison not contested it for me, I’d have lost all my pension rights at age 40, having paid in since I was 21.
