Young people...tv setup advice 07:51 - Nov 30 with 1593 viewsbluelagos

First off, assume I am an idiot. That's not hard but genuinely, my TV knowledge isn't good.

So, just got a new broadband provider. Good news is it seems good, bad news is the router is in the kitchen away from living room, so no wires going in/out of boxes or TVs.

Currently have broadband and bt tv from BT. Will be ditching broadband shortly.

Had hoped to connect TV to wifi but apparently it's not got wifi connectivity. Is about 7 years old and works fine otherwise.

So options seems to be,

But a freeview type box, connect to airial and watch tv.

Get a firestick to connect tv to interweb?

Buy a new tv with freeview built in?

But a new tv that can connect to wifi and watch through interweb?

Get a new laptop and a cable to connect to tv...basically turn tv into a monitor and watch tv through laptop?

95% of my viewing is bbc/itv/c4 and skynews.

Happy to go to pub to watch footie.

What should I be looking to do?

Any value in keeping bt tv compared to other options?

Cheers for any tips/insider knowledge. I would go to richersounds and just ask but the nearest one is like 40 miles away :-(

Just buy a new TV, they are dirt cheap. I got a fire TV the other week for just over £200 from memory and it’s a whoppa.

Get an android box and connect it to your TV basically makes it a smart TV then.

Then look into Kodi. Watch what you want when you want and feel great that Murdoch is not getting a penny.

What TV have you got
Make. Model. I assume it is not a smart TV hence why no WiFi connectivity. A 7 year old TV could have WiFi mine is older and has WiFi. Loon at the cheapest option. Another cheap TV might be good now but find you are obselete very soon

From one old person to another buy a free view TV that supports WiFi, all new TVs do. It is so much easier these days than it ever was before, from a man who remembers channel 4 launching as being exciting.

The manual would appear to indicate that it does have wi-fi capability.

Brookside is the only soap I have ever watched what with the Grants, the Collinses and the Heather and Roger, although I only stuck with it for a few years.

Im mid 30s so not young but i do know tech.

Buy a new TV pal, the channels you listed are all digital. (Lots of deals available online and at cirrys etc). Also on your phone/tablet, download an app called WiFi Analyzer, connect to your WiFi then place it by where your TV will be. It will show you the strength. If its poor you can buy decent WiFi boosters/extenders for 30/40 quid.
