Another Tory quits on 18:13 - Jan 5 by bluelagos | Skidmore was the last of the authors of Brittania unchained - unlike his co-authors he never got to fck us over in person. Truss / Kwateng / Patel and Raab were the others. |
I was at a conference where Chris Skidmore was a main speaker last year, and he was a) actually very impressive (talking about his Net Zero review) and b) was pretty frank in making clear that he had very little in common with anything that the current tory party represents. His Net Zero review was actually commissioned by Truss, with the expectation that he'd write something that trashed net zero ambitions, but he actually wrote something that made clear that an environment improving growth strategy was the ONLY strategy that could work. He's a lifelong tory, so I'll clearly disagree with most of his political history, but based on my brief experience of him he seemed what I'll call a 'good tory'. I'll add that it wasn't just about him coming and reading a script (easy to impress), but also a lengthy period of open conversation with those of us attending. [Post edited 5 Jan 2024 19:45]
