'The missile's booster rockets failed and it landed in the sea close to the launch site, according to the Sun, which first reported the malfunction.'

Maybe we should sell Putin a nice little rowing boat and invite him to come and laugh at our rusty old sub, then hope that if it all kicks off and he's close enough the bloody thing might land on his head!

What a ridiculous species we are. We waste billions on mass murder weapons we would only use in the event that the whole world is about to die.

So, yes, our hugely expensove "nuclear deterrent" involves launching some potentially defective missiles that may self destruct, may land and exterminate friendly people nearby & just might do some damage to our foes.
When will our politicians accept that we can't afford to play games with the big boys like the USA & China? We also wasted billions on 2 near obsolete aircraft carriers, which we can't ever risk deploying in action because we don;t have nearly enough support ships? These leviathans are incredibly vulnerable to missile attacks.

Why do you think that the carriers are near obsolete? Indeed the planned life of them is 50 yrs.
We are building a capability that was allowed to decline due the peace dividend’ and that takes time. QE went around the world no problem and yet as soon as she has a problem with a shaft coupling out come all the doomsayers! POW hit the sea floor in Portsmouth and damaged her propeller hardly the actual ship’s fault was it? Aircraft are arriving steadily but I’ll agree not fast enough but in some ways that is also due to LM not getting their finger out.
The USN will be going ape over the missile failure as they use the same stockpile so I dare say if they don’t know why it failed they soon will! Anyway those boys and girls are out there doing their best to train and keep us safely tucked up in our beds at night wish them luck.

Aircraft carriers are large targets. hugely vulnerable to missile attacks, And what use do aircraft carriers have in terms of protecting our country? Their only function seems to enable us to join the USA in some of their ill-conceived overseas incursions.

They're more for "projection of power" operations yeah. To enable a country to go and bomb foreign countries. Having said that, having a couple of carriers was vital in retaking the Falklands

First you actually have to find the carrier the ocean is a very large space! It is constantly moving and changing direction etc, there is around all carriers defence zones against submarine and missile attacks. Now before you say we haven’t got the escorts bear in mind these are NATO assets hence the multi national make up of the escort force and that’s why even now POW is up north exercising this very concept. Ask the US if they want one or two of our carriers in the North Atlantic doing a job an American one would have to do if we weren’t there. And yes we do have our own ships escorting American and French carrier's. I can’t think of an occasion when any of our carriers have been involved in one of the Americans ill conceived wars either even if there has been such a thing🤔
