That run of 9 wins from 10 08:52 - May 5 with 943 viewsHerbivore

Think that ultimately broke Leeds and Southampton. I remember back when we had our blip and Leeds and Saints were in insane runs many people were talking about us missing out on the top 6 and settling for the play offs at best. I was saying that it had taken monumental runs from Leeds and Saints, in both cases largely against some of the weaker teams, to catch us up and it would be hard to sustain.

When we responded to our own poor run by winning 9 out of 10 games, capped off by beating Saints at PR, I genuinely think that broke Leeds and Southampton. This was alluded to slightly by Russell Martin yesterday when he spoke about the runs they and Leeds had gone on and it still wasn't enough. Imagine doing what those two sides did over a period of 3 or 4 months of insane form and still finding yourself behind us because we refused to lay down and die. Psychologically and physically sustaining that form indefinitely wasn't possible for either of them and that enabled us to come out on top.

Big shout out to the platform we built up to mid December of course, it was because of that we were very hard to catch, but that bounce back from us in February and March was what really finished the other contenders off.

Love this team, love our manager and his staff. Uppa Towen.

Good analysis Herbivore.
Also, I think you predicted us to finish 2nd before the season started so hats off to you for that as I thought you were being a tad optimistic.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

If you look at the table as an outsider. It's absolutely bonkers that town finish 2nd.

It's not just when you look at the final point totals, but the small 6 under losses...

This is a side who's transfer spend in 2 seasons was less than what leicester paid for Winks and we missed being champions by a point and GD.

I think you're correct. All teams have a bad run in a season, even Man City in relative terms, the key is how you recover from that.
This is a strength of McKenna and his approach of don't get carried away when things are going well or bad.

I forget who said it yesterday now as I've seen/heard so many clips since the game yesterday. But a so called expert made the point other managers when they went on winning runs they were all smiles, talking up and then when they lost a couple the smile goes, replies are negative. But with KM the response after games is always the same. With the only real emotion was that response to the Hull goal.

As you said Martin's point was spot on, Leeds reached 90 points and in any other season that's the autos, but not this season because Ipswich (and Leicester) were even better. He was also spot on with his comment.... "They've been great. Everyone kept saying throughout the season, 'Oh, Ipswich will fall away,' but they haven't."

Prime example... Moore at Sheffield wed last season.

On a good run sitting first I think

" would you take 2nd"

His answer was no.

Fair play he didn't get it.

But it's spot on to what you say.. play game by game and see where you end up.
