He is from Fermanagh. Not much of a chance he would be approached, and even less of one that he would accept.

He could always acknowledge the appointment but not go to the games...

He’s still in talks with Chelsea, United and Brighton.

No chance he’s interested, but even if he was he’s far too progressive and modern for the dinosaurs at the FA.

I'm not worried about McKenna leaving for England.

I am, however, worried about him going to Newcastle if Howe is appointed England manager.

I don't think there's much chance of him being offered it now, but in several years' time, when he's shown everyone what he can do in the Premier League, I don't see why not.

Having lived in Northern Ireland during his formative years surely shouldn't disqualify him? Both he and his parents have chosen to live here at different times, he was born here, went to university here, and has surely lived in England for the majority of his life?

That's a more interesting point. No way will the FA go for a rookie like McKenna. They will either go down the Southgate route with someone like Lee Carsley, who has managed the U21s quite successfully, or an English manager with PL credentials such as Howe or Potter. Hopefully, not a foreign mercenary like Klopp (although the media would lap him up).

Once he's established us in the PL, I'd actually be more than happy for him to take it over as long as we remained in good hands. I'm too young to remember Sir Alf and Sir Bobby but there must be a sense of pride in your manager being recognised enough to take over the national team.

That would also make it 3 managers we'd given England which is another nice bit of history.
