Walked down to the ground earlier this eve. 22:41 - Jul 31 with 2393 viewsjasondozzell

Two lorries with stadia seating parked outside. Cherry picker up by the SAR spray painting the top ahead of the new signage. Away fans ticket office bit has been painted and new shutters/ticket hatches. Ashton loves his black paint doesn't he.

Still looks like lots to do but I think they'll manage it. It's great to see the care being taken over the ground after so many years of neglect.

It's such a beautiful old ground. Seems churlish to even say it but sometimes find the new infrastructure a bit sad when it overshadows the old parts. It has to happen but there's real beauty in the Cobbold even if it will need replacing. The new gates and screen etc that they put in the corner between the Cobbold and the SAR were needed but they and the shiny silver rods slightly spoil the view looking down PR and seeing the beautiful angle of the Cobbold with the white lettering. Ashton's updates are smart and needed but slightly corporate. Can't have everything though and it's all needed. They've made great work of so much already. We can be proud of the ground - so much more history and beauty than virtually all the other prem clubs imo. Maybe only Villa Park, St James, Anfield come close...

Perhaps controversial but I’m really not a fan of all the black paint. Shoukd be white in my opinion but black hides more sins and is easy to keep looking clean!

I do wonder if they will try and join up the north and south stands to the new Cobbold for extra capacity. Might not be an easy one to do and extra cost but you’d imagine that would house an extra
1500 to 2000 fans there.

Going to the ground feels pleasant again, it’s being looked after. There’s things I dislike in the side stands, space, facilities in them but they are what they are but looking forward to the Cobbold being replaced.

Maybe building a new cobbold stand might give us a chance to make the playing area slightly bigger and technical areas as well

Only just really realised that the new cobbold will mean the dugouts will be on that side of the ground which will feel all sorts of weird.

Wonder if there’s any boring practical considerations for that I.e. the sun seems to be on that side a lot more for games so coaches / managers will have the sun in their eyes a lot more.

I wonder if the media space will continue to be on the Britannia side when that new stand is built. Practically it’ll be a bit strange fkr the reception and entrance to be on one side of the stadium and the media to all have to head across tocthe complete other side.

Also black makes things stand out more. Like the ball ... and advertising.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Quite like the black/white contrast with the steps and the exit/entrances.

I’d love a new Cobbold to be an exact replica of the current one, just bigger! Love the concrete angles in Portman Road. Remember them having coloured lights between them for one season only , 2000/1. Would they move all the dugouts and associated bits across? The sun is a pain at times on that side.
