I'm trying to remember - how did our transfer dealings go over the last two summers under Kieran?

Did we have most of the signings in relatively early, with few/no signings coming in during the latter weeks of the window? Or am I looking at them through the prism of this summer's difficulties, and remembering them being more straightforward than they actually were?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Both, Mark Ashton has previously said Town have been working on targets for many month's, some come in early and some take a lot longer to complete. We are now competing with much bigger and better financed clubs for the same players.

Also, with much more media exposure, our dealings are being reported on at a much earlier stage. The calibre of player we are now after also means that the selling clubs will want info of the deal out there to weed out any other interested party's....

In general, Ashton seems to have hit-and-miss summer windows where he chases targets for a long time but is unwilling to be ripped off. Can't argue with his January business.

Remeber when we chased Hirst all summer. Got to the end of the window with Ladapo as only senior striker. Panic-bought Ahadme. Also panic-bought Camara.

Each summer we've struggled to get our main striker choice in and ended up having to recover the situation in January. I'm not convinced Delap is the main choice and I don't think we can really afford to have the same happen again.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

The biggest challenge of all is the sheer number that we need to bring in (yes, Paul Cook brought in more players, but a lot of them did not work out and we struggled to deal with such a number of new players). A few signings will be loans (we can bring in two premier league loans plus loans from foreign clubs) and they tend to happen later and a few decent players that don't make the cut for the big clubs will become available.
When we were in League One we recruited for the Championship. When we were in the Championship we recruited the best we could and supplemented the squad with quality loans. We just weren't able to compete with the wealthiest Championship sides for the best players for the Championship. Only since confirming promotion to the Premier League could we start competing for the best players in the Championship.
It is an extremely tough task, but we are having a very good stab at it and recruitment has been very good so far, but not good enough yet.
Who knows what the season will bring, but just by getting promoted last season, we have set ourselves up to at the very least be among the favourites for automatic promotion if we get relegated, but you'd imagine KM would move on if we were relegated. We mustn't let our expectations get ahead of us.
