Delap has had a great start for us & looks like a beast even against experienced PL defenders, but he is still young & learning the role. Hirst knows the role better & arguably provides more in the way of linking with the 3 forward players in behind, & indeed with Davis when he gets forward. Maybe the Southampton game is still a bit early for him post-injury, but McKenna loves Hirst - he immediately favoured him over Kieffer Moore when back from injury last season, despite Kieffer having been really effective for us - so I think he may well start him, with Delap coming on as a devastating powerhouse of a sub on 60 minutes or so, by the Aston Villa game.

Hirst is the man currently most in tune with how we play. It was really noticeable how much better we were when he came on against Brighton.
That's not meant as a slight against Delap, who is probably a better all round forward, just a reflection that Hirst has been here longer and knows the system.
Needing to pick is a nice problem to have though.
I think Hirst is more technical, and Delap more physical. Both will have a big role to play this season.
Former striker Alan Lee gave some really good insights into our strike force on TWTV following the Fulham game. Comparing himself more to Delap, and confirming Delap and Hirst are quite different, with Delap having areas to improve.
Delap looks really impressive to me. I'd like to see him in a match where we have more possession, more attack play. He has a very high ceiling and needs as many games as possible.
I was sure we'd be playing on the right until we bought Ogbene. Like the above, I think these new fangled tactics are a young man's game.
