I was reading that they count uptake in Suffolk as one of their big success stories. We've just been quoted under the scheme for an installation at Château Zx, and have been offered 16 panels for about £4,000, with a 5kw battery being an additional £2,000. The prices seem to compare incredibly favourably to what it seems I'd end up paying if I went to a supplier as a single customer. Is the scheme worth it, or is the devil in the detail? |  |

Assume you have a quotation from the installer you can look at their reviews and see if you fancy them. Mine was OK both times, but a long wait for the batteries. It's also backed by a local government initiative and funding, which keeps prices down, and gives you an added guarantee. The actual contractors were excellent: clean, tidy and efficient. Pretty cool when the electrician used his drone to check the installation work from the ground. We don't have a battery, but the installation would enable to have it as an add-on. However, I gather a drawback is the batteries only have about a ten year life, compared to the 25-30 year life of the panels. We're also happy with the return: virtually no electricity bills in the summer, as we get 15p per KwH export tariff with Octopus. Go for it. |  |

Agreed, electricity consumption from the grid is negliible in the summer and now the nights are drawing in I'll charge my batteries overnight on a low tariff. If you have an immersion heater get a diverter for free hot water too. |  | |  |
