Anyone got any experience with Clear aligners 09:44 - Oct 9 with 1494 viewsNedPlimpton

Been considering getting my teeth sorted for a while, but prices seem to vary wildly and there's hundreds of different companies all with very similar names. Feels a bit like the wild west at the moment

Anyone gone down the clear aligner route and happy to share their experience?

My son has them. He got them from Smile. The company were pretty good and got his jaw and teeth all aligned. The only issue is that he is told to wear the retainer every night to prevent a drift back.

Thanks. Although any idea if that was Smile White, Clear Smile Sure Smile, New Smile etc etc?

Yeah invisalign is one option. Seem to be way more expensive than other online versions though

I've had invisalign and am very happy with the results. No idea how much the costs compare with others as I didn't look around, I just went with the dentist I usually go to. I had already decided to go ahead with it and had booked a consultation when my dentist rang me to say they had an invisalign promo event where all retainers and treatments were being offered for a fixed cost, significantly cheaper than what I was expecting, but still £2500. This was a few years ago and I do still have retainers to wear at night. I wear them every other night.

Really useful, thanks

If invisalign was £2500 now I'd bite your hand off (excuse the pun). Looks like potentially being almost double that!

Similar experience - used Invisalign to sort out my upper teeth in 2011 -2012. Took about 18 months in total, and cost c £3,500. There's a metal brace along the back of the teeth to hold them in place but was also advised to wear the retainer on alternate nights, However the retainer split after a couple of years - didn't get a replacement but teeth still well aligned.

I've got invisalign currently. I winced at the cost, but was conscious of another less-expensive alternative I'd looked at going bust just as I was making inquiries and its customers being left mid-treatment, so I bit my tongue. Which is one of the reasons I was getting it.

It's alright, you quickly get used to it. Taking it out every time you eat is consistently annoying but it also makes you largely give up snacking if you're as lazy as I am, which ends up being a bit of a fringe benefit. Strictly speaking you're supposed to also take it out every time you drink but I've sort of given up bothering and it doesn't seem to have discoloured anything.

Only thing I would say is if yours is an at all complicated case, it's not quite as "clear"/"invisible" as they'd have you believe - the little anchor points they put on your teeth in such cases are a bit noticeable and not vastly more discreet than a standard white brace would be.

On retainers, I think you end up with them in most cases after any type of orthodontic treatment don't you...? I know a lot of people now looking at correction because they had braces as kids but didn't stick with retainers.

Exactly my issue. Had braces as a child and then as soon as they came off I quickly gave up on the retainers
