Whilst we all know Prince's guitar solo on WMGGW is peerless, the guitar on this track is stupendous. Originally recorded with a backing track, George Clinton was so blown away by Eddie Hazel's guitar work he just faded it all down, leaving Hazel upfront and central. Towards the end you can hear the valves in his amp breaking down and begging for mercy. Incredible.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.
