Some are making a lot of the £100m or so spent in the summer 08:55 - Oct 20 with 1357 views | CopfordBlue | What was the value of the Everton starting 11 yesterday and any idea of the difference in salaries between our two starting line ups? I’ve not tried to work it out but with the calibre of players they had I’m guessing it was at least 3 times what our squad is worth.

I just can’t see the argument on that one. Whether the players we’ve bought in are good enough to keep us in the league is one thing but in most cases (the jury is still out on a couple) they are a clear upgrade on the players they have replaced. They need time to settle in, not just to the team but to their environment. The new players are not at their best yet. The squad we had last season would not have competed in the Premier League. We’d be rock bottom without a point. I don’t like saying it as they were a fantastic squad, the one I have had more pleasure from watching than any other in the 50 years as a supporter, but they would not have coped.

Apart from Greaves. Non have shown they are a clear upgrade yet. Delaps shown what he has but he's non goal scoring play isn't a touch on hirst Clarke maybe an upgrade but not with the role he's playing Szmodics. Can't be classed an upgrade as not playing Oshea. I liked him but apart from heading I agree with others now I don't see what else he does that's better than wolfy Muric isn't an upgrade Johnson.. Well I don't think any of the above is ott. Apologies if it is.

Differing opinions is a big part of football and forums such as this. I think Delap is a totally different league to any striker we’ve had at the club in 20 years.

We could've bought only Greaves and Delap and I think we'd be in the same position. The rest of that transfer budget has been absolutely squandered

He will be 100% but just speaking about squad v squad at present. Think hirst at present might offer us more as a unit hence I don't put delap in the upgrade pot yet.

Who would you have wanted us to bring in and who realistically would have wanted to join?

Will Stephenson could well be out of his depth or , simply, didn't have enough time to bed into a crucial role in a really crucial time.

I think the same is true of some of the others - they’ll prove their value in time. Far too early to write them off or view them as poor buys.
