It’s always hard to take positives from a game like that, real sickener.

But the one that stand out for me is the performance of George Hirst.

First premier league start against one of the most physical and well disciplined teams in the league and he looked more than capable. His development since he got here has been absolutely superb and he was good value for a goal and an assist today.

We have 2 really capable strikers in this division I believe. The defence is another conversation but Hirsty deserves his flowers today. As does Delap for his goal and nearly goa.

I said to my lad before the game, I wasn’t in the slightest bit worried he was starting. Quite the opposite. Delap is an amazing talent, but Hirst is a clever player, knows us better and I thought he’d be more likely to bring others into the game. He’s a brilliant natural finisher too. I always feel like he’ll score in a one-on-one. Maybe he’s not hot enough pace and physicality for a higher level in the PL, but that intelligence makes up for it.

Delap has clearly been our star player this season but we’re a miles better team with Hirst up top.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

Horses for courses.

I think there are games where Delaps power and pace to drive forward will be needed. If I wanted someone to hold the ball up bring others in, Hirst is your man.

Good options to have.
