The Expected Goals Premier League Table 14:31 - Oct 28 with 5358 viewsitfc_statman

If you hate stats, look away now.

I figure there may be some who look into data in more detail, and use that to assess the performance or to compare vs our eyes. Our eyes are often biased, data isn't.

For those who don't really know about the Expected Goals stat and how it works, this article gives a really good simplistic overview:

The table doesn't make good reading but we can use it to see where we need to improve moving forwards and if there is improvement, we should be able to confirm what we see with our eyes with this sort of data.

£23m for O'Shea & Muric. Burnley must be laughing all the way to the bank.

We shall see I guess. Hate to write players off too early (and it would be too early). And benefit of the doubt currently re Greaves and Axel injuries, so getting up to speed.

Saturday wouldn't have been so disappointing if it hadn't come off the back of those rubbish performances against Hammers and Toffees.

Oh well. Er, COYFB!

Just wanted to update this thread now that there's been some more games played and the good news is we've seen some solid improvement in most of the metrics, but most importantly probably the xG difference. We were comfortably the worst team by some margin 9 games in.

As you'll see now, we're still overall the worst but we are much closer to the rest of the pack. Also worth noting we are still comfortbably bottom in the away table for xGD, but we're now up to 16th for home form xGD.

Would be interesting to see, after tonight’s game, these start, in table form, for the first 7 games, and then the last 7 games.

Have a feeling it would highlight the improvement made, and explain KMc’s confidence.
