Talking about stars (not) aligning... 18:01 - Nov 2 with 703 viewspointofblue

It looked like Cajuste was coming on, presumably for Phillips, in the first round of subs. Then Davis picked up an injury and McKenna only made two subs, presumably so he could judge how Davis was. Phillips stayed on, got a second yellow for sneezing (after the penalty wasn't given), and the rest is history.

Phillips' second yellow was legit. Overzealous and Gabe the ref a decision to make. Naive. But the lack of pen ten seconds prior is the biggest issue.

That's one way of looking at it. Another way is that McKenna is getting a bit predictable with his subs. Doesn't seem very flexible in making subs early or keeping players on if we are looking ok. Felt he would have been better keeping Omari on rather than bringing Burns on.

The OP’s is the version we all saw happen though (ie the reality). I think you’re making a separate point but this particular incident doesn’t fit.

I do agree with that - I didn't like the Hutchinson for Burns sub at the time but I presume he thought Burns would help defensively. For me, Hutchinson would help to stretch the field on the break. Hirst for Delap made sense but, especially when we went down to ten, the former offered nothing at all. But Delap may have been shattered - he gave it everything today.

It took ages for the referee to show the second yellow. At the time I thought he was persuaded by the Leicester players but, looking back, I presume he was waiting for the VA-Na decision on the penalty.
