Worst refereeing (/VAR) calls at Portman Road 10:34 - Nov 3 with 3945 viewsSomethingBlue

I've slept on it and, no, I can't quite shake how awful that was yesterday. The call itself and then the non-application of the VAR recourse for something that was absolutely clear & obvious. And then the borderline call on Phillips seconds later.

I rarely dwell on reffing decisions and hate discussing them to be honest, so have probably forgotten most. But I'm trying to remember any worse ones than this that stick in my head from attending games at Portman Road. I've got Bob Hamer's incredible awarding of a penalty to Liverpool for Phil Whelan's brilliant tackle on Dean Saunders early in 1992-93 (very big deal at the time!), and maybe the Marcus Stewart/Ian Harte fiasco in 2001 that perhaps cost us a Champions League place. Any others?

The Harness disallowed goal against Barnsley is up there.

That is the first real stinker we've seen where a ref has a helping hand though. Inexplicable how it isn't given and you wonder what the point in VAR is if that isn't over turned. Especially when you see some of the soft as sh!te decisions that get given. Most recent case in point the West Ham one last weekend.

I don't buy all the corruption stuff but find it hard to believe that isn't given at the Kop End at Anfield.

I don't know, I get the feeling that the ref was one of those who over corrects for home team bias. The sensible thing to do when you ignore the penalty claim is to ignore the yellow card claim and give a free kick and calm things down. He probably saw the challenge by Phillips as a challenge on his authority in that he felt that Phillips was taking anger into that challenge from the ignored penalty shout.
Either way, KM was totally on the money when he said that the ref shouldn't be putting himself in the centre of the game. Unfortunately survival can be decided on small margins. So the refs have a lot of responsibility to get things right.

The dive Van Nistleroy got away with when Titus Bramble was a foot away from him

I'm hoping that Van Nistelrooy is still the Man Utd interim manager when they come to PR so he can get the stick he deserves for that crime.

Warky getting sent off at Norwich in 94/95 and totally disrespected by referee Paul Durkin. I'm sorry, but Warky was a well-respected professional and didn't deserve the manner of Durkin's dismissal like he was some psycho instead of an aging player that - at best - mistimed a tackle against a pacey forward.

F***ing hated Durkin for the way he did that.

Obnoxious little oik. I could understand if Warky was being confrontational or debating it, but he did nothing after the foul and certainly nothing to justify Durkin's conduct.

Poll: Lambert goes, would you prefer an ex-Town connection replacement or not?
