Rice or Pasta 11:54 - Nov 19 with 2231 viewsChurchman

Now everyone knows the potato is the king of such carbohydrates. Premier League Champions from the day Sir Francis Raleigh decided to eat them rather than build houses with them (see Blackadder) and gave up his bicycle making business.

However, challenging for Europe is Pasta and Rice. I like both a lot but on that desert island with a choice between the two, I’d choose rice.

Which do you prefer and what is your favourite rice and pasta dish?

For rice it has to be a tandoori chicken biryani and for pasta, sorry, it has to be a really good meat laden spaghetti bolognaise with a good lasagne a close second.

There both non league compared to the all conquering spud.
They can compete with pot noodle but not the roast or mashed potato!

Let alone chips, crisps, rostis, dauphinois, parmentier, Idaho skins, baked, boiled with lemon juice and herbs, gratin, potato salad, soup, hash browns - the list goes on

One of the very best uses of rice is good quality risotto (using arborio). Mushroom with a little shredded chicken and you have a bowl of perfection.

Exactly the list goes on forever. The croquette and of course the Leitrim Boxty will need adding to the list.

I refuse to frequent a Sunday afternoon carvery unless there a minimum of 4 potato dishes on offer

' In France and Italy, it's common to fry an egg and drop it onto a pizza. You could fry it partially and finish it in the oven, or fry it first and add it just before serving. There’s even a pizza in Italy called the Bismarck that features a sunny-side-up egg atop marinara, mozzarella, and prosciutto'

Poached egg and prosciutto on an english muffin with a teeny tiny wipe of english mustard on the top bread and butter on the bottom... its one of my faves

Yep, beans on toast. Without the toast. And with mince. And proper tomatoes instead of marty sauce. Actually you don't even need the beans. But apart from that it's just beans on toast.
