Stadium Tour (h) match report 15:28 - Dec 1 with 1729 viewsIllinoisblue

The day starts with tea/coffee in Burley’s Bar. Then a video message from our lord and savior, Mark Ashton.

Then outside and back of churchmans and through the media zone and around to reception where, somewhat oddly the 2nd place trophies from L1 and Championship are displayed on window sills.

On to the changing rooms; away room deliberately basic and bare as it should be. Home room looking very slick with its blue mood lighting. Here we get a video message from the best young manager in world football.

From there through the tunnel and out to the dugout area. (It’s not a dugout anymore so why are we calling it that?) Sat there for a moment and wondered how good it must have felt for KM at that Huddersfield game.

Out the back corner of north, through the fanzone and up into the directors box. Best seat in the house, obviously, although still not a lot of legroom. Ashton’s seat has a small screen on the wall in front, presumably so he can make note of which refs to add to his hit list .

To the boardroom next which was the only somewhat underwhelming part of the tour; didn’t feel like a boardroom - there’s no table or chairs in there - and feels like the memorabilia could be better displayed.

Finish up in the new media room and have your photo taken in the manager’s chair.

All in all, well worth the 25 quid. Tour guides do a great job. Thoroughly recommended.

Did it with my kids last season. Exactly same by what you've described. We did line up in the tunnel in 2 rows to replicate the teams walking out and I suggested why not pipe in a recording of the crowd roar as the teams emerge to give it a slightly 'real' experience. Like you say well worth the money.

That would be a great idea to pump in some crowd noise. They did have the entrance music playing, whatever that song is, to add a little excitement to the walkout.

Do they still do the corridor with all the newspaper cuttings and photos etc?
Could spend hours there alone.

And are the Marcus Evans stairs to nowhere shown?

They do not - feel that stuff would make for a great online archive. The old newspaper cutting that always gets me is from the Star/EADT the day after we won the UEFA Cup with Mills really slagging off Robson for not committing to his future at the club.

And the secret staircase was not featured! Although they did say two windows in reception were discovered when they knocked down a wall to make it brighter. Guess back in the day they just bricked or plastered over windows.

That’s all gone. It’s all been taken down and been given a lick of paint, happened a while back. Alan Brazil was fuming.

Wanted a fresher look and they hope to put it all up in an ITFC museum at some point.

I’ve got that edition of the Star, my father-in-law gave it to me a few years ago.

Also contains the side story we were interested in a young Dutch lad called Rudd Gullit. We probably dodged a bullet, he probably didn’t amount to much.

Done the tour a month ago , shame we didn’t go into the hall of fame and also didn’t get to see inside the two new viewing lounges that have just been completed at the far end of Magnus stand , nevertheless a worthwhile visit .
