Google censorship 22:59 - Apr 26 with 778 viewsZx1988

We went to Budapest last week, and I spent this afternoon typing up some reviews of the various places we'd visited.

One of the sights we saw was the incredibly poignant 'Shoes on the Danube Bank' memorial, paying tribute to Jews murdered by Arrow Cross militia during WW2. Sadly it also seems to have become a shrine to IDF soldiers killed during the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

I posted a very simple review along these lines:

"A poignant memorial, but needs to be better protected and curated in order to ensure that its meaning is not diluted by being hijacked by other causes."

Google refused to publish the review, stating that reviews of this site had been restricted "in order to help keep Maps safe and reliable for everyone" but, funnily enough, there are plenty of very recent glowing reviews of the memorial.

Surely this is censorship, at its most blatant?

WW2 is a big flag for Google.

I was at the Utah beach landing museum, taking photos of the excellent relics of the Atlantic wall. Some Nazi items amongst the photos. Instant review block, by image recognition.

I understand the auto-decline if photos you added had Nazi items in them, but this was far from that.

It was just a three-star review, alongside the text in my initial post. It would seem to me that criticism of what the memorial has morphed into is strictly forbidden.

Google isn’t your (or anyone else’s) friend.

Other review sites and search engines are available.
