He is just misguided. Too young to know how things were and why the rule was brought in.

More booze being consumed in football grounds is just a really bad idea.

Why? If you went to rugby, cricket or even non league games you can have a pint no issue. Why not at football?

If people are already spannered or acting like tw@ts don't serve them or get them booted out.

I love a beer but it’s much better without it in the stands.

In reality, we know poorly paid stewards are not going to deal with drunks and it shouldn’t be on them to stop people not being able to handle their booze.

The only positive to it is that given how long it takes to get served at half time for those that like a half time beer, queues could be reduced if you could go and get a pint and take it back to your seat, or not worry so much that you’ve not been served quickly enough to finish your pint before going back into the stand for the start of the 2nd half.

Realistically you can get one or two (if you're determined) pints down your neck in a half is that going to make that much of a difference to how drunk you get?

If anything, like the change of the licencing laws in the 90's people adjust their drinking habits as they'll know they can now have a pint during the game. The doommongers in the 90's said the change in the laws would lead to new levels of drunkeness and debauchery which was has been proved to be nonsense.

I hear what you’re saying and to the average, sensible drinker, what you’re saying makes sense.

But British culture has the percentage who will not make a good idea a positive reality. It works in other countries as they have a different mindset. Even in English cricket you come across people who can’t handle drinking in the stands.

More than a touch patronising but never mind. Times have changed since the 70s and 80s. As I mentioned earlier the change of licencing laws in the 90s, according to many, would lead to widespread chaos and debauchery, it didn't, why should this?

Those were different times, regarding the violence.

I'm not convinced that the no alcohol in the stands rule does not encourage fans to rapidly neck beers beforehand/in the concourse, thus making them more drunk than would be the case consuming one slowly during the half.

On the other hand, there is the problem of beer being thrown around when a goal goes in.

Times have changed. Football culture hasnt very much. However, the things we had to deal with there have been significantly and succesfully mitigated by the measures were brought in. This was one of them.

Let's not go back.

Thing is, they will neck them at half time and then add a couple in each half outside as well.

You could argue that the Euro 2020 final showed why things were changed.

I think some have swapped beer for coke at football, and whilst it’s a minority, it does make me fear what bringing back beer would be like.

I think they could do it for certain stands or areas but you’d have to really clamp down on those that bring back the worst elements of it.

Which wont happen, because Stewards cant deal with it.

Add 50 agressive police to do that job, and look where the spiral takes us.

People who want to get smashed will do so before the game anyway. The issue with the pint-necking is everybody has to do it, due to how long it takes to get served and not being able to then take the drink back to your seat.

But it's not ideal either way and the shortage of time issue likely dissuades many from having another one at half-time anyway (I know it does me).
