Paul Lambert revisited ! (Not a Bob Dylan song) 21:13 - May 14 with 3264 views | stiff_talking | How do we feel about Paul Lambert efforts with Ipswich now the dust has settled ? Highlights : The dug out fight with Norwich, the landing of star striker Norwood only to fall out with him over a night out in London, reuniting old players with the club, playing out from the back, relegation, Marcus Evans and Covid. It was a complex period, and perhaps now is the best time for reflection. Be honest, but fair to Paul !

All the mangers brought in by Marcus Evans are not without fault. But Keane is by far the worst of the lot - he inherited an ok team which needed three of four new players to realistically push for the playoffs and possibly the top two. Remember at that time, money was a real advantage and three or so decent players weren’t nearly as expensive as what they are now. But instead, he turned the club into relegation contenders, turned the club back decades and managed to disillusion Evans as well. Plus his autobiography (think it was written by Roddy Doyle) also was quite scornful of the club and fans. An utter bell end of a manager and person.
Paul Lambert revisited ! (Not a Bob Dylan song) on 14:10 - May 15 with 195 views | monkeymagic | On reflection, I probably wasn’t harsh enough in what I posted on the day of his departure: I hope it’s largely Lamberts fault and a new manager would see us promoted but I fear the problem is mostly a lack of ability. Most of us would pick a first 11 from the following: Holy : no more than a competent league one keeper. Chambers : even at his best, only a makeshift right back, no longer up to it. KVY : probably a championship defender but who knows. Ward : let go by a mid table championship club, legs gone. Wolf: probably a championship defender in the making, not there yet. McGuinness : ditto Wolf. Bishop : never fit or selected often enough to form an objective view. Dozzell : might progress to steady championship midfielder, not there yet. Downes : top flight potential, but long way to go and doesn’t exactly stand out at L 1 level for now. Judge : championship at his peak, way past that now. Nolan : L1, at best. Edwards : if used correctly, top end L1 at his best. Jackson : just about proven at L1 level, doesn’t look up to championship standard. Norwood : never played higher up and not likely to now. Hawkins : released by L1 rival. Thomas : on loan from struggling championships club probably no more than a good L1player. Harrop : ditto Thomas. Based on the above, are we even underperforming or are we actually just not very good? I think a more capable manager could push the group to 6th but not much more. The problems run far deeper than who the manager is. A new manager will reignite interest and help bolster season ticket sales but I’m not confident we’ll get it right and be much better on the pitch.

Paul Lambert revisited ! (Not a Bob Dylan song) on 14:51 - May 15 with 163 views | HighgateBlue | Better win percentage than Cook, with time in a higher division included. Was a miserable piece of work and hence was hated much more than Cook. Big error to give him such a long contract. Far from our worst Paul, but gets more disapproval than he deserves, in my view.
