Rather than amplifying the immune response it suppresses the immune response which would be a excellent way to treat the ~800m people around the world with autoimmune diseases. "Over two weeks, 33 celiac patients who were in remission ingested gluten; about half had received the inverse vaccine beforehand, while the other half got a placebo. After two weeks, researchers examined the subjects’ intestinal lining and found that the inverse vaccine group had no damage, while the placebo group showed a noticeable worsening of symptoms." Essentially it can be used to re-educate the immune system not to attack things it currently sees as threats but that in reality aren't threats. In many cases these perceived threats are actually parts of our own bodies so retraining to not attack those would work for a wide range of autoimmune issues. SB

This is potentially massive. Lest we forget, allergies are an autoimmune condition which can be potentially fatal in some cases.

From the article (I've not read the published paper yet) it seems that it could work for histamines and other external factors: "In addition, inverse vaccines seem to have benefits beyond autoimmunity. They may work for allergies, which also involve an overreaction by the immune system – in this case to a food or environmental trigger rather than one’s own body." With regards to cancer, the vaccines are very specific, you re-educate the body to see that a certain type of protein isn't a thread and then that isn't attacked. Given this precision I don't think it should affect other immune responses including those to do with cancer. As an aside, a promising treatment is attaching proteins to cancer cells that the body se as harmful so they are attacked rather than hiding from the bodies auto-immune response. SB

I saw something yesterday about a hypothesis (I only quickly scan read), that suggests alzheimer's could be an autoimmune disease.

The immune system is a fascinating, brilliant and occasionally terrifying thing.

Why would you create a vaccine that did that? I suggest you read the article or even better, the paper. SB
