Cheers

Have stayed in Negril previously and still consider it one of my best holidays. Drinking Pina Coladas and getting high on a beautiful beach all holiday long. Where are you staying?

highest murder rate in the world, fairly third world, stick to the tourist areas and avoid much of it I would have thought.

Looked at Ocho Rios but chose Montego Bay in the end due to my hotel having a sister hotel next door which has everything I was after

Been to Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril

Fantastic holiday. Fantastic Place. Fantastic People. Amazing Beach by that hotel. Best sunsets I have seen anywhere in the world!

Definitely go for a Private Transfer from the Airport if you can. (If you are heading to Negril)

Ricks Cafe - guess you have to do it, but expensive and wouldn't need a second visit IMO

Pelican Bar - Fantastic, one of the best days of my life, just the coolest trip and amazing place. It was starting to become a bit commercialised (I went there in 2019)

Dunn's River Falls and Park - brilliant place, great trip

Catamaran - Snorkelling etc pretty decent

Blue Mountain Coffee Plantain - we combined this with the Bob Marley Museum in Montego Bay, Brilliant trip but hours of travelling. (BTW the roads and driving can be terrifying.)

Brian at Easy Breezy tours is fantastic, would recommend him, great company for Private transfer and trips

Happy to answer any questions, but as mentioned, I went in 2019 so a few changes since then.

Ricks Cafe was fun watching my kids jump off the cliffs but you’re right about not needing to go back there: food and drink is expensive and the place soon gets crowded.

And yes some of the roads/drivers are genuinely terrifying!

There is an Ipswich in Jamaica, but very much off the beaten track, according to this.

Yes, when I mentioned it to the taxi guy he had never even heard of it despite being there since birth for 40+ years!

This was where I stayed, but was a few years ago and have heard they've renovated since.

The beach was amazing.

We still keep tabs on the hotel on a Facebook page. Think it struggled a little post Covid but seems to be nearly back where it was. There had been renovation by 2019 as I recall. We had the best holiday ever there IMO, food, people, pace of life, never really felt unsafe but we were guided most the time.

The beach is the best I have been to anywhere in the world, and the sunsets are utterly mesmerising. We had brilliant trips and nothing was a let down in my opinion.

Costa Rica runs its a close second though, but for very different reasons, very different holiday.

I visited about 6-7 years ago and stayed in Montego bay.

Personally I wouldn't bother going back to the island full stop. I have visited most of the Caribbean and Jamaica is not as safe or as nice as other islands.

Outside of the hotel in touristy areas you get hassled all the time. Local street types trying to sell weed. They offer to sell you something like a CD, carving or wrist bracelet, then give you the weed.

The Bob Marley estate is worth seeing.

You are best taking approved trips with your hotel.

I wouldn't bother going back. The various Dutch islands and the Bahamas are far nicer.

Nah, don't think so.

I would recommend. The Bahamas, Bonaire and Curacao

Agree with all of that. Contrary to others, I found the locals brilliant and welcoming. Always happy.

Always said I'd go back but hasn't materialised yet.

We probably will go back at some point, but have the mindset that the world is a big place and lots on the list to visit.

Malta and Rhodes were both great too

Harsh but I probably would avoid Jamaica and certainly at night not go off the beaten track. As someone pointed high murder and crime rates safer at Jaywick only teasing.
Kos myself in a few weeks longs no major earthquakes.

Rhodes is one of my favourites. Was there in April. Malta I've flirted with for a while but never been, looks good though so will hopefully go soon.

Thanks for the info guys - definitely going to do the Bob Marley and blue mountains trip and will decide on more once I'm there.

Not planning on going off the beaten track - some Jamaicans at work have warned me off Flankers, Portmore Seaview and Spanish Town - said even they wouldn't go there!

Rose Hall. Really interesting. A plantation where slaves were whipped and the lady of the house had a penchant for watching whilst it happened. She also had sex with some of the slaves and was eventually murdered by one of them. Her grave is in the grounds where three sides of the grave were enclosed and one end left open so she could come out.
