Anyone have one?
We’re moving into a new place which needs a full refurb including a heating system (it’s currently got a mains gas back boiler). Looking at options, we could replace it with a new combi boiler for £6k-ish or we could fit an ASHP for £4.5k plus solar with battery for a further £7k and remove gas completely from the property. Just keen to know if anyone lives with a similar system and how you find it / whether it’s worth it |  | | |  |

I got mine for less than £4.5k. Granted that's after the £7.5k grant, but sounds like the OP will be eligible for that. |

Surprised nobody has mentioned but unless you go for an expensive quiet one they can be very loud. We opted to put in new oil boiler and keep system. It's very efficient. We have solar panels and battery and make a healthy profit each year that pays for the oil each year. Oil boiler is on for about an HR each day during the winter.
We decided to do this as our neighbours heat pump is so loud. We live in the countryside but it's on almost non stop during the winter and if outside is a constant annoying buzz | | | |

On very cold days you can hear mine for sure but I wouldn't call it loud. In the house things are much quieter than with the boiler and the heat pump making a noise that can only be heard outside during winter didn't seem like a huge problem to me.
But that's in a town, can see how that may change in the countryside. | | | |

I had an air source heat pump in a property I bought new in 2009, it was terrible and cost the earth to run, understand they have come along way though and are very standard in new builds. That experience still puts me off though | | | |
