If you can, try and keep to the ‘following’ tab rather than the ‘for you’ tab.

Twitter is full of anything related to Trump or Israel right now.

It’s vile and full of bot accounts, thankfully, there is the option to block any words or accounts you don’t want on your feed if you still want to use it.

It’s a terrible place. In general social media is. There are increasingly few reasons to want to stay alive in this world.

Whilst I agree that the treatment of people in Gaza, occupied Ukraine, the conflict ridden areas of Sudan and Myanmar to name just a few are terrible there are also wonderful things happening too. I don't want to gaslight those terrible conflicts but if we can draw strength from great music, literature, painting, clothing, food and the company of others (whether actual or virtual) then we build solutions to improve what there is and reduce the bad stuff.

See your answer solves everything and yet still people moan. There only ever was a following tab before and now there is a for you tab which you don't need to use, yet people are moaning about content ???

If you haven’t already, watch the Social Dilemma on Netflix. Quite eye opening.

People need to live in the moment, not online . . . . and I realise the irony of posting this on an internet forum, but this is the one area on social media I am active.

Left X / Twitter and TikTok and am a passive viewer on Instagram / Facebook mainly to keep in touch with overseas chums and specific groups which interest me - very select on the groups/people I follow.

Appreciate it's a bit of an echo chamber, but these tend to be based on my hobbies rather than political nonsense / current affairs. I will say it is amazing how many people will turn a post on a WW2 Airfield site into a statement about stopping the boats, never ceases to amaze.

I have a general rule that if something someone posts something on facebook / instagram that annoys me, I will hide it rather than respond, like I used to as it is a hiding to nothing.

Have found that with less social media, more time spent doing stuff generally and enjoying the here and now my mental wellbeing is so much better.

X and similar platforms shine a light on a billion or more minds and much of what it reveals is not pretty! Just got to learn to curate what you follow and try and ignore the noise the algorithm sends your way.

On your last point see BaxterBasics post above on ignoring what the algorithm sends your way, the content is not just haphazardly innocent.
