Makes me understand why she didn't want to be at the Euros as a reserve keeper.

The kind of player who performs at her best when she has the full backing of the manager, but struggles without that vote of confidence.

Lots of players are like that. But, ultimately, Wiegman can't use her at her best if Earps doesn't believe she is number one. Reminds me a bit of Paul Gascoigne. He totally needed to believe that the manager 100% believed in him.

I think Gazza was more about his demons off the pitch.

On the pitch, he usually delivered.

broadly correct, but Hoddle was right to leave Gascoigne out of his 1998 World Cup squad as at 31, his lifestyle was beginning to take its toll.
Graham Taylor left Gascoigne out of a Euro qualifier in 1990 in favour of 32 year old Gordon Cowans for "tactical reasons", which sums up how inept Taylor was.

Disagree on this one, Gascoigne never let England down, antics aside. His current form and fitness at that point was okay. That WC side lacked midfield creativity, In the WC and warm up games they managed to score 8 goals in 7 matches. Hoddle wimped out.

I can't stand this assertion that players like her have a "bad attitude".

She doesn't have to play. No player owes the country anything anyway... but one who has represented England as successfully as she has doubly so.

she could have read the situation and retired a lot earlier. Too much ego.

An argument could be made that Gazza could have come on with 20 mins remaining and made something happen.

I often say would have been better to have Gazza on the bench than Rob Lee
