At the moment we have
5 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 3 midfielders, 8 number 10’s/wingers and 2 strikers.
So assuming basic aim in the 25 is to have 2 players for each position and decide on what’s most important for the 3 extra. In our case we probably carry a third keeper and an extra 10/winger and a third striker.
So 2 keepers need to go out, and 1 winger/10 and we need a midfielder and a striker in to get the numbers right.
So guessing out are Muric , Slicker and Broadhead and in starting midfielder (Downes please) and centre forward.
Then it’s one in one out in terms of upgrades with I guess the likely names to be mentioned to be upgraded being
Walton
Button (already!)
Clarke
Baggott
Humphreys
Ali
And replace anyone sold
Hutchison being the obvious

Safe to say we'll look to finish the window with the full allowance of 25 senior players. Last season we wrapped up the summer with 25 + Omari & Delap, who met the U21 classification and so didn't need to be counted.
It feels safe to predict Button will be in the 25 in my view because he's signed on a playing contract. We'll very likely shed Muric and Slicker for the season, which leaves us with 24 senior players to begin calculations from. Baggott and Humphreys leaving would reduce that to 22, Omari (hopefully not but clearly a risk) to 21.
It shows the squad remains quite full, given we definitely have much work to do in CM and we have at least some work to do in ST. Are we targeting two strikers or do we intend to keep Al-Hamadi at this lower level? We also have work to do at CB, 100%, given we've lost both Burgess and Tuanzebe. Even if Baggott and Humphreys leave alongside the two goalkeepers, we don't have room right now for four seniors that feel an absolute necessity (2 x CM, ST, CB). | | | |

3. An athletic, mobile striker who can play as a 1 up top - Guiu seems to fit the bill.
Potentially right back who tucks in and operates more defensively - Gilchrist from Chelsea was a good shout.
Loan Signings
1. A 3rd of 4th choice striker - but Al-Hamadi is perfectly servicable for this role.
2. Maybe a versitle player who can play across the back 4.

I wouldn’t rule out loans with big options/obligations upon promotion for any of the signings needed. Might be a way of getting higher quality and backing off some risk in terms of cost. | | | |
