I have a text message telling me that my latest "vehicle tax" payment has failed and I should click on the link immediately to avoid penalty.
This is an attempt by fraudster to get my bank details.

Beware of such messages.

There also some very good fake websites so you can "check your vehicle status" which will obviously show you need to pay as well.

They're getting really clever these days, my wife got conned for €600 this week via a secure message within the Booking.com app! Wan*ers!😡

I had the same text from a number ending in 745. Quite obvious phishing if you know what you're looking for, came from a 'normal' 07 phone number, 'update' was spelt incorrectly and it was a hooky looking link.

As you say beware though, I generally don't respond to any links in text messages.

If you dont know them or recognise them, ignore them.

I agree. But sometimes legit organisations have very spammy web addresses.

I got some snail mail demanding I updated who was registered to vote at my property.

It was told to go to:

householdresponse.com/huntingdonshire

I mean, come on. Presumably it wasn’t a .gov.uk address, because it isn’t part of the government functions, but there must be a domain we’ve heard of that could be used for that.

That’s terrible. But also cunning. Scoundrels.

I've been getting a few recently from webuyanycar with a quote for a reg that is nothing to do with me.

Other side of the coin whenever EE call to try to flog me something it comes up as suspected fraud, I'm with EE, maybe the AI on my phone is giving me a gentle warning.
