I have a text message telling me that my latest "vehicle tax" payment has failed and I should click on the link immediately to avoid penalty.
This is an attempt by fraudster to get my bank details.

Beware of such messages.

There also some very good fake websites so you can "check your vehicle status" which will obviously show you need to pay as well.

I had the same text from a number ending in 745. Quite obvious phishing if you know what you're looking for, came from a 'normal' 07 phone number, 'update' was spelt incorrectly and it was a hooky looking link.

As you say beware though, I generally don't respond to any links in text messages.
