The beautiful game on 20:31 - Jul 26 with 744 views | ArnieM | OP: I get where you're coming from, but I'd say Pep's approach per sa, hasn't ruined the game, because his tactic worked really well with the players he has/d..... the problem is players being coached at other clubs to adopt this approach, yet aren't good enough to execute it. Its other clubs coaches, copying Pep's approach which the problem..... and persisting with it when it clearly doesnt work for those players. Those are my thoughts on it anyway...

Do you know Arnie. I'm really caught. When it works like it does at times with town I love modern football. But sometimes. I miss how horrible football used to be but how fun it was Goal kicks going keeper to keeper Headers and volleys being played for 20 minutes A hoof up pitch a tall forward heading it on for a smaller one Then you had wingers flying down the win whipping balls in Then you and the occasional tricky cms who'd skill their way through the midfield and other cms smashing goals in from 40 yards. I'd love to know just out of curiosity how many goals are scored outside the box now to what they were 10 years ago. Goals of the month used to be amazing. Now alot of the times it's how many touches can you have before it gets in the box.

...quite agree with you. Plus there' s the good ole scything tackles ( from behind), and the player decked would hit the ground hard..... and simply get up. Or if you were Billy Bremner?? stand up, and square up to the defender who'd just made the tackle, and attempt to punch his lights out ( but the defender was a foot taller lol). The games gone soft, is largely predictable and naturally therefore has lost a lot if its spontaneity.

This is why I enjoy watching Big Match Revisited on ITV4. They're showing matches from 75/76 season at the moment. I don't think they've shown Ipswich yet but I'm keen to see any footage of our team and how they played in the years before winning the FA Cup. It really was a completely different game 50 years ago. Newcastle thrashing Norwich yesterday and Eric Morecambe smoking a pipe watching Luton. Marvellous.

If that's what you are after then you could do what I did yesterday and go and watch a Scottish League Cup (Group stage ffs) match on teh journey back from Pittodrie, Forfar v Arbroath. It was interesting...after a fashion. For a minute I wondered why you don't see the hooked pass over the top the head and upfield with the opposition player at his back in our games, but the penny drops within seconds that at higher levels there isn't the time and space for such malarky, and the pass finds one of their players only half the time anyway. Forfar are semi-pro and I was wondering about, a few rows in front of me, the score of ladies slightly getting on in years but dressed in summery frocks all the same. I guess that at Premier League games away in the Gods of the executive boxes there are glamorous WAGs but in the lower Scottish leagues you are in the same stand as the players Mums and Aunties, there was even a hoodie with 'Some people wait all their lives to meet their football idol, I raised mine' on it. The modern game played the McKenna way was a bit more absorbing.
