2 young brothers reported dead.... 10:50 - Jul 30 with 943 viewsBarcaBlue

Just been reported here that 2 British brothers aged 11 and 13 have drowned off the beach of Salou. That is shocking news but apparently that takes the number of drownings on just Catalan beaches to 15 this Summer. Equally shocking is that there are an average of around 25 deaths a year just in the Summer months and just in Catalunya.

Apparently the alert was raised at 20.45 yesterday. Lifeguards work til 18.00, and only the father was able to be rescued.

That is so so tragic and ultimately avoidable

Surprises me that, I’ve swum off Salou many times, no real currents to concern yourself with.
Were there blustery conditions at the time?

Poll: Is it more annoying when builders

Very sad, Spains drowning rate is becoming a concern, i think last year was the 2nd worst on record and this year looks like it could surpass it.
As the dad couldn't save either of them im assuming it was either a riptide or strong winds.

Yeah, me too.

There were yellow flags flying, 1.5 metre waves. A 54 year old German man also drowned there yesterday.

Feel so bad for families going on holiday and left devastated.

It is a concern. The Catalan government just spent 30 million euros raised via the tourist tax on bringing the Ryder Cup here in 2030, last year millions were spent on the America's Cup all while locals are protesting against over-tourism.
There must be a bit spare for evening beach patrols at popular locations.
