Hackney… on 20:20 - Jul 31 with 294 views | Perublue | My memory is misty but I have a feeling we (Ipswich) dropped down to the national league ( 2nd level at the time) from the top level (British league ) and pretty much took Hackney’s place and whole team back to foxhall ? It could have been a time when the witches almost went out of business without the move ?

Yes, I think that might be right. I’d need to check, but after the John Berry glory years, Chris Shears had the Witches for the mid-80s until 1988 and as you say, we nearly disappeared, before John Louis effectively moved Hackney Hawks to Foxhall, including Chris Louis, Loram and I think some of the other riders… Dean Standing and Alan Mogridge. First home match under Louis regime was Good Friday in the National League and he did a lap with a witch fancy dress costume on before the meeting. John Louis was my first sporting hero, and the Louis dynasty continues to this day.
