“Resting” players tomorrow night 21:15 - Aug 11 with 602 viewsWallingford_Boy

I find that a very odd expression, 1 game into the season!

I would think most could do with another 90 in their legs after fridays performance, especially as we don’t play until Sunday.

Use the game to improve the first team.

Resting players indeed….

RIP Sir Bobby

I imagine the need to not have certain players injured in a match they shouldn’t need to play in is the key. Hirst & Matusiwa in particular.

This is almost as bad as your playing in lightning take.

You realize you have to build up to match fitness as well right? We just had a ridiculously high intensity game Friday night and already have some injuries to deal with in key areas, while still actively working on new recruits. Do you want to put our first team out against a League 2 side or will also be up for playing a newly relegated PL team?

They could make it quite physical for us I should imagine. There is a reason a lot of higher ranked teams go out of this competition in August. Not a game we need to overly focus on.

It's not 1981, this should be as close to a C team as possible let alone first team.

It's a combination of not giving players an unnecessary extra workload in a 3-game week and giving those who didn't play a chance to gain more match fitness. This is coupled with the fact it shouldn't need our full first team to get through.

It should also be noted that historically when we have put a stronger team out against a supposedly weaker side we often haven't played well even then.

I get the argument that we should want to win and progress but there is no denying that the league is the priority.

B team should be enough and as I get older a decent cup run would be nice.

There is always the argument thatnow isn't the time for a Cup run as our priority is promotion. But when is a good time, as it is often argued against be that when we we looking to go up, avoid going down or overreaching and staying midtable in the Championship under ME.

It's also a bit more embarrassing if you put your strongest team out and they don't perform, can dent confidence I'm sure, which as we know it very important..

I think the “storm” take was 100% accurate and you’re the only person I’ve met to disagree! lol

But I do see both sides of the argument here, but for me I’d rather we got used to playing together.

RIP Sir Bobby

Pick the team for Sunday and work back from there. Use tomorrow if the minutes will benefit Sunday, don’t if they’ll compromise it.

I can see an argument for getting 30-45 minutes and a bit of sharpness into Akpom, Young, Ogbene etc but only in service of the weekend.
