Theft from Charity shops is at an all time high. I didn't even know that people stole from them, but it's up 20% nationwide from last year.
Gutter fodder, the lot of them.

Poll: New hobby suggestions for NeedhamChris.

The mayors of areas with higher crime rates than London (such as Andy Burnham) don't come in for the same stick as Sadiq Khan. I wonder why?

https://metro.co.uk/2024/11/20/map-reveals-full-list-areas-uk-worst-crime-rates-

Cleveland – 132.4 per 1,000 people
West Yorkshire – 121.7
Greater Manchester – 117.7
South Yorkshire – 111.1
West Midlands – 111.1
Metropolitan Police – 105.1
Humberside – 105
Durham – 100.8
Merseyside – 100.8
Northumbria – 98..5

You wonder why Cleveland hasnt had as high profile media coverage as London? Maybe because it doesn’t have a highly paid mayor elected on a promise of reducing knife crime. Nor is it a city of global importance and major tourist destination. It’s not great for commerce either.

Anyone in that position should be held accountable. I’m pretty objective, so inferring some other motivation is unhelpful and unfair (whatever you are insinuating). Doesn’t mean his entire tenure has been bad but objectively, the stats show some things have very much gone in the wrong direction.

Many apologies. My post wasn't aimed at you but was a more general long term one in the sense that Sadiq Khan has been subject to criticism from day 1 from those on the right, and in my view a lot of that (but clearly not from you) is due to the fact that he is a Muslim.

Interestingly, Khan's recent Tweet (which I never looked at) appears to be part of a fight back by him. He describes the attacks on him as attacks on London rather than him but I think that is being rather charitable.

Interesting to note that the right wing onslaught about London being lawless is even influencing the Guardian.

I heard the other day that some supermarkets are putting security tags on cheese now.
The country's gone.

Sister volunteers at a charity shop. All the goods are either £1 or 50p.
They have regular shop lifters who come in and take what they want. She says on average about a dozen a day.

Staff had tried to interfere but were threatened with violence. Police not interested.
Workers now told just to let them take what they want.

These people are not hard up, judging by the number of rings on their fingers. They are just thieves.

What a world we live in ......

Compassion you describe that is lacking from your posts.

Who, pray tell, are the charities set up for?

Maybe we should be considering what is driving increasing numbers of people to steal food and clothes.

Pets mostly. People seem to like animals.
