Taiwo Awoniyi - have always thought he'd be the perfect Mckenna striker 14:08 - Aug 14 with 1254 viewsBellevue_Blue

If this deal goes through, they'd have ..

Chris Wood, Igor Jesus, Arnaud Kalimuendo & Emmanuel Dennis for one position so surely that leaves both Awonyi/ Dennis surplus to requirements.

All speculation though and we still don't know if Akpom/ Azon will be used primarily as CF's. If they are he obviously would not be needed.

If Azon comes, that'll be it for CFs coming in. We might see an Omari replacement in the withdrawn forward roles if he goes but Awoyini definitely isn't one for those positions.

No but Mckenna might see Akpom as exclusively inside left or 10 in which case we might be on the look out for another.

I was only speculating.

We only have 25 squad places, McKenna would ideally like 3 CFs and 8 forwards for the three in behind, but that doesn't leave us enough room for midfielders, defenders, and keepers. So Akpom will absolutely be doubling up as 2nd/3rd choice CF as well as one of the 8 who can play in behind. It's the only way to make the squad work in terms of numbers.

We could bring in two U21 midfielders and an U21 LB? None of us have got any idea what the plan is.

As I said, I was only speculating. You don't need to prove me wrong.

I'm engaging in debate, mate. You've speculated, I've suggested reasons why it's very unlikely we'll go in for another CF if Azon signs. No reason to be so precious about it.

You haven't suggested anything, you've done the opposite and told me what is happening. You have told me that 'Akpom will absolutely be doubling up as 2nd/3rd choice CF' as that's 'the only way to make the squad work in terms of numbers'.

That isn't debate, it's dismissive. Fine if you think that but debate is 'I think this ...', 'My opinion is that...'

I'm not precious, I just think if you want to engage in debate, use language that creates debate. Ask a question, present your opinion, use facts. There is no need to just dismiss one possible option because your opinion is different.

We may have a space available if we sell Hutchinson? Perhaps do a deal with Forest over Awoyini at the same time. Akpom could be used to cover the right.

I'd rather sign a specialist replacement for Omari than rely on Akpom for that role, he's played more as a 10 and from the left (as well as up top) is my understanding. Would we need Awoyini to cover for Hirst and Azon than we'd need completion on the left for Ogbene? Can't see it, personally.

Also not a chance he would end up here, he’s had injury issues but when he’s had a run of a games he’s looked class and another EPL team would take a punt on him for sure.

I find it very unlikely that we'll sign another out and out striker like Awoyini if he sign Azon as it'll make it very hard for us to put together a squad of 25. It seems very likely to me that Akpom will act as 2nd or 3rd choice striker alongside Hirst and Azon rather than us adding another body. As Akpom can also play behind the main striker, he enables us to have 10 good options for the front 4 rather than needing 11. If we have 11 players for the front 4, we can't also have two for each position in midfield and defence as well as the needed 3 keepers. We could sign a few under-21 players but that strikes me as being unlikely as players who qualify as under-21 who are also good enough to get minutes for us are more likely to be available on loan (and thus need to be registered) or will be very costly.
