If I was a highly promising 19 year-old professional footballer, I would say to my agent: “give me the same 2 year journey as Omari Hutchinson”:
Most importantly, playing regularly. 80+ games. And in the starting XI since early 2024. Not sitting on a bench.
Working with a fantastic coach. Who is also a truly decent person.
Playing in multiple positions, thereby building different skills.
Experiencing a winning culture in a promotion season. And being toughened up by playing in the Championship.
Also experiencing a difficult relegation season. Different learnings. And not something he’ll want to experience again. But the best thing: playing, week in and week out.
So I would say to my agent: send me to Ipswich Town !!

And equally understandably that Hutchinson - who never let us down on the pitch - thinks the right thing for his career right now is playing in the Premier League. It might not work out - he might not get much of a look in at Forest - but you can't really argue with his decision. |  |

But I don't think anyone has the issue with Hutchinson moving on. It's the way he's acted which has annoyed/disappointed some of us - and seemingly McKenna too. | |

100% agree.
This is an ideal next development experience: good opportunity to be a regular starter, working for an excellent manager, in a team that could be challenging to be top six.
All goes well, and he could get a move to top four Club in 12 or 24 months time.
Ignoring the messiness of his departure, for him this is the right decision. | | | |

Fair enough - I once was prevented from changing roles within a previous organisation which presented a significant opportunity having been verbally offered the new role, as my existing boss decided they could not backfill me appropriately in the timescale needed.
Basically the lack of succession planning by my existing manager held me back, I could not resign as it was an internal move, so I kind of understand where OH may be coming from (footballers can't just cancel their contracts / resign) and I would be very curious to know the conversations that have been had and what commitments were made by both parties. | | | |
