Am I the only one that is becoming concerned at McKenna's insistence on playing this formation, whoever we play against?
I feel McKenna is predictable. Opponents know how we set up. Our midfield is the problem, we either get overrun or outmuscled in midfield in almost every game. But more importantly our forwards get little service, and our defence has little protection.
What is McKenna's problem with playing 3 in the middle? He doesn't try anything different, ever!
What do others feel about playing just two in midfield?

We haven't got the full squad in yet (and those we have got in will take time to get up to speed). That's a big part of it. |
That is true, but that is part of the problem of our approach rather than an excuse that has been foisted on us because of circumstances beyond our control.
There are always plenty of competitive teams in the championship, and many of them are raring to go, with much more complete squads than us. There has either been a failure of strategy or execution given where we find ourselves squad-wise right now.
Norwich managed to bring in 11 players, just to cite one example. We were always going to lose a number of players without being able to stop them from going, and once we chucked Morsy on the bonfire it was clear that we needed to be signing players more proactively than our competitors, rather than less. Time will tell, and I suppose we judge at the end of the window, because things may yet change. But playing catch up in a season where we have a massive financial advantage is a real headscratcher. Right now I can't think of a department in which we're materially stronger than we were 18 months ago. Even centre back is highly debatable, having let Burgess go, although I'm not going to be so churlish as to criticise O'Shea, or Greaves' performances so far this season.
I'm not worried about our defence or our keeper. The former is decent (and we only need to recruit another centre back if Woolfie has had enough), and the latter is good enough for this level (though not the level above).
We need to create chances, and we need to finish clinically. Both of these areas have been disappointing so far. |  | | |

Flash. Does it matter really how many of those we would want. The answer is probably none.
However we have our own requirements and are struggling to meet those requirements with a week to go.
Now I'm all for patience. And yes we are shopping in a different market etc but it's plain as day KM is frustrated so fans can be too. We need quality reinforcements and are still probably 5/6 players away from a real quality squad. That's alot to ask for in 1 week esp when we then need to remove some players too.
In a whole world of football and hundreds of thousands of footballers. It's incredible that we go into this week how we have.

2. You've answered it yourself - we are shopping in a different market. A market that doesn't start moving until the end of the window, and it's been explained many times why.
3. We aren't 5/6 players away from a quality squad.
4. We don't want most of those hundreds of thousands of footballers. We want close to the best, potentially prem ready.
