This is spot on. Szmodics remains a square peg in a round hole. He's at his best up top, playing off the shoulder or in a two with a hold up player. As a 10, he is not clever enough. Clarke is physically not strong enough for the role he is being asked to play. He is a winger who needs to receive the ball in front of him 20 yards further up the pitch than he is playing. It's no coincidence that his two best moments today came in that fashion. We were told that the physicality and power of the PremierLeague overwhelmed us and we would recruit accordingly. I know they're not this year's new recruits, but the three behind Hirst must be the lightest weight players possible.
