It feels like the end of an era, over the last couple of weeks since the first home match, my Great Uncle's mobility has taken a turn - unsurprising, he's 90 in October and recently spent a short period again in hospital.
I'm ringing the club at 10 to ask about alternative seating arrangements for him, myself and my Dad who support him to games as his carer, as although we take him in his wheelchair, his seats near the front of the north upper require a few steps to get to, he's been navigating them slowly for the last few years but the decline in mobility means it would now cause an awkward delay and potential challenge for when people are entering/leaving the stand.
I'm doubtful they'll be able to seat us on the disabled platform in the North Upper as it always seems rather full when I park his wheelchair, he's been supporting Ipswich for 80+ years, it's his life, so I'm a bit nervous about what if anything they can offer at the moment to ensure he can still see the game.
If they can't offer anything suitable I'm thinking about enquiring as to corporate options, just to ensure that he can still access games at the ground in this final chapter of his life. If anyone has any knowledge about pricing for those, it would be very much appreciate if you could drop me a DM and let me know, so I can figure out if it's a possibility.

I'm very sorry to say that Arthur passed away in the early hours this morning after a couple of days in hospital. we said our goodbye's to him on Friday, I know many of you knew him personally as I received a number of lovely messages after posting this original thread back in August.
Ipswich have been a professional club for 9 decades and Arthur witnessed 8 of those, the majority of which he travelled home and away.
My love for football is as much driven by my love for him and the experiences we shared watching Ipswich Town around the UK in my early teens, as it is the game itself.
He was the most incredible man who made a remarkable impact, not just on our family but the wider local community.
He was never unkind and was always there for me. He introduced me to the arts, taking me to classical concerts and theatre as a young boy, something that not many boys of my generation from working class backgrounds would have experienced.
He would pick films out in the radio times for us to watch when he came to babysit and let me stay up late to watch them, he never impressed his opinion on anything- he just presented the art and allowed me to have my own experience, interpretation and relationship with it.
There’s a road named after him in our town, recognising his impact on the local community- not just in his job as a registrar but as a school governor, chairman of the tennis club, founding member of the Ipswich and Suffolk youth football league and a contributor to a number of local sporting/art/theatrical groups and organisations.
Once met, never forgotten- there will never be another like him. |

Really sorry for your loss. He sounds like an incredible person who enriched many people's lives.
Wishing you well navigating your grieving process, and as always, feel free to chat over DM if you ever need a hearing ear. I don't know you, but I'm sure you are a decent fella, having had such a profound influence in your life like Arthur.

Sad news indeed. I have such fond memories of Arthur. Of his kindness and wit, of his fabulous knowledge of ITFC and love of the arts. He brightened many a day, and will never be forgotten.
As I heard the news of his passing, I am at the women's game at Birmingham, as they played "Keep right onto the end of the Road". Arthur's Road was longer broader and better-travelled than almost anyone else's!!! |  | | |

Thank you- when he made it out of hospital after 4/5 months in there over the lockdowns, every thing there after was a gift and the double promotion just punctuated that.

Very sorry to hear that Libby and your words speak volumes about the man. Didn't have the pleasure of knowing him first hand, but world is a sorrier place without Arthur.
Hope you and the family are holding up ok and that Town give a proper blue a fitting conclusion to the season. |
