The season of the low block 10:20 - Aug 31 with 641 viewsRIPbobby

Should we perhaps consider not playing a striker? Our problems is we don't want to take players on. You almost can never pass around the low block. You must demand we dribble against players sitting in space. They have to eventually come and tackle you. Frustrating.

Just do what Fulham did to us last season at CC when they needed a goal with 10-15 minutes left, put bodies in our box and went route one at every chance..

Pick up the scraps from that, second ball they call it, but it creates panic for defenders..

We didn’t do well last year with zero low block.

Can I suggest the problem isn’t what the opposition do or don’t do?

We are predictable. Maybe if we had a cynical side last season, we wouldn’t have been a soft touch.

Maybe if we had some shape and patterns of play this season we’d be more creative.

We don’t win or keep the ball well, and we don’t create in open play, at all, against anyone, including fourth division reserve sides…., that’s the reality.

Let’s not blame Derby, with 10% out budget, for playing other strengths, that’s not our problem.

Westy was right on comms you need to be 2 goals up against these teams - at 1 goal their tactics don’t really change in the hope they get a lucky break / chance.

A change in formation would do.

3 in midfield, Akpom in the 10/9 hybrid role.

Overplaying when you need a goal against those tactics is ridiculous. Just look at how we got our pen yesterday, that ball probably only happened because of how deep it was into injury time.

We are playing to play the right way too much, same as last week.

Try 433, there's nothing to lose! We're total crap with the current set up.

I see some of these games like utd v Grimsby... almiron with his subbuteo board trying to work out how to play around them. Imo it's just simple. Be direct get the ball into the box. Get corners etc. Bull them into making mistakes and goals would come.

a niche perspective
Poll: We've had Kuqi v Pablo.. so Broadhead or Celina?

Get the ball in the box. Put a couple of guys up top, feed off the scraps. It’s not pretty but then we can’t afford to be. Otherwise we are going to have a lot more of these frustrating games this season where we can’t break teams down. We also need to be a bit tougher. We are too soft, get in , tackle them, barge them, pull a few shirts, we have to start that way , get a couple of goals ahead, then we can maybe play our fancy football. Because at the moment these tactics don’t work.
