Anyone else watching Preston v Boro? makes you think differently about our... 13:00 - Sep 13 with 1173 viewsunstableblue

... game and result up there

Yes Boro have had more possession.

But Preston are taking the game to them, not sitting deep, technical on the ball, energy

They basically sat deep completely with us, had a few moments due to physicality, got the pen, then sat deep for a long time.

Maybe we underestimate how Preston completely changed their game to nullify us.

And like us Boro are finding their defensive line to be extremely well organised...

... cue 1-4 final scoreline

Agree. I said after Preston that the most interesting thing was their decision to go resolute low block all game.

That told us more than the result. Not many teams will want to play football against us.

Every team we've played have changed their set-up to cope with us, it will be the same for the rest of the season as we've the best squad and manager in the league.

Sheff Utd changed their starting line-up and some of their best players to ensure they could retain the ball and have more control in the middle. I'd say it worked, and they edged possession and control in the first half. But we have the players to break lines and quality to create from nothing....but have lacked confidence to do it so far...that is what changed last night.

Indeed

I was saying to someone earlier.. The Blades were almost perfect for us last night... came at us for significant periods, but fortunately were completely blunt on any chance, and they left us space between midfield and defence, and Philogene and others had a field day.

That is simply not going to happen in 80-90% of games, especially when we've just score 5!

The difference since the Preston game is we now have Nunez... who is going to be that midfield creator to unlock things that we've missed for season upon season. And you have a ridiculous back-up cavalry, I mean look at this:

Hirst
Philogene Akpom McAteer

Azon
Clarke Szmodcis Egeli

Plus Burns

Its beautifully ridiculous

Yes we were saying in my block, that Blades had flooded the midfield and were owning that space and feeding forwards form their, plus we were giving away some silly free kicks, that the blades couldn't punish.

I do think that maybe on 15mins before the goal, Matusiwa and Cajuste just started to get on top and started winning the battle... then the goal

Blades tried to press us high, and there was palmer passing out moments... but they pressed us too high in my view.. and Akpom was having early joy in that space.. the kind of space we had none of at deepdale

yep agree. Whilst he is perfectly fine for this season, Palmer's footwork isn't good enough for what KMcK wants us to do. There were several occasions where Akpom had found the Chappers pocket of space between our pivot and Hirst and needed a dink ball to feet (a move Hladky had perfected), but he wasn't able to do it.

Fair play to Preston. Have done both us and Leicester, now leading the team at the top of the league with a 100% start.

Hackney has really grown into this game, can see the quality.. BUT on 13:52 - Sep 13 with 568 viewsunstableblue

He's really struggling to end some brilliant energetic work with end product - shooting or incisive passing.

He is such a similar role to Nunez.

I'd say Nunez may be just a bit more technically gifted with his distribution - albeit this Preston side are really robust and difficult to get through

Bonkers

Again Preston have played very differently. Yes under the cosh second half, but after the first Boro equaliser, thye came again and attacked..

I think if you finish above Boro this season, you'll be in the top two.

Hackney mixed for me
