Remembering The Beat and Bolan. 16:57 - Sep 16 with 1930 viewsStochesStotasBlewe

Kevin Beattie passed away seven years ago today. A colossus of a defender and still my all time favourite Ipswich Town player. Had a shot like a rocket, tackled like a tank and was immense in the air. They don’t make centre half’s like him any more. Legend.
Marc Bolan , my early teenage years were heavily influenced by the great man, weird lyrically at times, but in my eyes was a genius who was probably a bit ahead of his time and taken on this day in 1977 at only 29. Still love listening to his music. Legend.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

As someone who never saw Beattie play, what would you say if is the best game to watch him in Town shirt in? His greatest performance for us?

My favourite goal was when he scored in the 4-1 beat up of West Ham in April 1975. Last game of the season and good revenge for the FA Cup semi final fiasco. We all went home happy after that match and it was on match of the day later that night. The goal sums up everything about him, as does the tv commentary by Barry Davies and even begrudging praise from Jimmy Hill. The MOTD is in black and white though I remember watching it in colour.

the crowd that day were particularly raucous to the extent that Bobby said after the game that we’d got ourselves ‘a crowd’…

Brilliant

The game that made me a Town fan!

I remember the injury-hit years when the 'Beattie Is Back!' chant would ring round PR, more out of hope than belief.

Poll: The career progress of former town players is...
