I think we are still some way from being our best 13:04 - Sep 30 with 1319 viewsRIPbobby

Yes the back to back home wins have been most welcome, but are they flattering to deceive?

You look back at the Blunts game and analyse our game. Jadens 3x goals were all snipes from distance. Great goals, but not really ITFC goals. The other 2 were shots through the keepers legs. Yes we had spells in the game where we played it about nice, but scored 0 Ipswich goals. The blunts played fairly well too. That was not a 5-0 game even though the scoreline says it. Look at the stats.

Pompey game was better than the Blunts game, but still not our best. Again Jaden scored a snipe from 20+ yards. Lovely. Now the goal Hirst scored I would say was the type that got us promoted 2 seasons ago. Fast break down the left and centred to a forward who couldn't miss(although he almost did, lol). That was bloody brilliant and our first goal like this, this term. Again pompey played well second half. Pack played like a sweeper and controlled a lot of the game from the back. We didn't seem to notice that from the sidelines, which was disappointing. Again the stats point to it being a tight game. I guess we will see a lot more of these games this season as teams wont let us play. We still have a lot to work on in my eyes. Still some of our best players are not quite right within themselves.

Hopefully we look ace tonight, although I think it will be a tough, tight game and as I have said many times tight for the first 60 minutes.

Basically you're saying that if you ignore the goals we scored, the games would have been a lot closer?

Or that goals from long shots don't really count?

Bit of a weird take tbh.

Clearly we can, and will, get better but we've just seen two very encouraging home wins with lots to be happy about.

Do you see my point about open play goals after last night? Take away jade's snipes and the 3 scored pens and how many have we scored? Not many old friend.

This is going to be the narrative from some all season unfortunately - every dropped point is a disaster, win and we should have won 'better', win convincingly and we only did so through luck or the opposition being bad.

Yep, looks that way. Get promoted and it was a poor league and/or squad isn't strong enough for the Premier League. There will always be a negative spin from some.

Jaden's goals have all been from open play? Why do they not count?

Of course they count, but they won't go on forever at that rate. The point I was making is we are not getting into many good goalscoring positions at the moment. Hence when we did(Hirst v Pompey) I lauded it as what we need to do more of. Hopefully we have a few of those on Sunday versus our feathered friends.

goals are goals. opposition managers aren't fools, they will have a plan to defend against the classic leif cutback, which will allow more space for the likes of jaden, clarke, sindre etc to score from outside the box.

indeed, you could argue that we've already seen the fear of leif's overlapping runs has lead directly to goals

adapt, diversify, evolve. it's all good!

The goal threat has been there in more games than not - we've just not taken as many as we should have.
