McAteer last night 17:02 - Oct 1 with 715 viewshomer_123

I could be wrong but I recollect several runs he made beyond the full back for a ball over the top/ through but we never pulled the trigger - I seem to remember at least 3 times where he made the run, the pass wasn't made, in fact we went sideways or backwards and he trotted back to his position.

I am not sure we played a single long ball down the right, if we did I can't remember and it's nowhere near as many as the left.

In contrast to when we had Burns playing there - we absolutely would look for that ball.

Am I wrong in my recollection? I just feel we've stopped with that out ball.

When McAteer plays we don't seem to deploy him like we did Burns. He looks more like a Right midfield player than a winger. We might play those balls for Egeli when he is in the side.

You weren’t mistaken, it happened all night. He brought good energy and as I mentioned elsewhere had to deal with some poor hospital passes from Furlong and wasn’t getting support from Akpom or Azon when he did have the ball. He also had two on him most of the time. It wasn’t an easy night for him and a lot of that wasn’t down to him. The difference when Sammie and Hirst came on in terms of outlets for a forward pass was very noticeable imo.

Biggest waste of money ever. Nowhere near good enough. Panic buy.

You're right. I've said elsewhere that we are taking so much time to get the ball to our wide players on both sides of the pitch that by the time we do, they're confronted by a midfielder and a full back. It's worse down the right as we are focusing our attention down the left so much. Having said that, on the occasions McAteer did get the ball in a bit of space, he really had to do more by really going at his man.
