Concur Rangers are arguably a bigger team than some give them credit for. Featured in European Finals, overcame Leeds United in both games when the latter were league champions and guess fill out Ibrox arena most weeks, must be 40,000 crowd there or something. Pity is they're constantly stuck in an absurd league with up until now being one of only two winners where they haven't always been able to showcase their talents away from it. | | | |

The Premiership might be a strange league in that every team play all their opponents four times each season but it is not absurd, there's quite a robust style to it. The quality might not be as high as the Premier League but when you consider that the population of Scotland is one tenth of England's then you start to see that it is still punching above its weight (although not to the extent that Scotland did in the latter half of the last century but there is still hope for new Warks, Dalgleishes, Brazils, Sounesses and Burleys to emerge - McTominay comes close.) Consider also that the capital is as much a rugby city as it is a football one, and that the Highlands and Islands regard the prominence of shinty as a mark of honour, hence Glasgow has an advantage over those parts in terms of feeder clubs and leagues. On top of that a recent UEFA report gave Scotland the crown when if came to volume of support, more people per capita go to Premiership games each week than any other top division in Europe. [edit; forgot to address the OP, I think Russell Martin came to senior management too soon, he may still find a place in a small club (even smaller than Nodge) and be successful. A moment's sympathy for Matt Gill too, he should be part of a better team.] [Post edited 6 Oct 8:04]

I didn't know that about the number of fans. Of course, it may not bring in the money but in my view bums on seats, as opposed to armchair fans, is what football is really all about. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/scottish-football-attendances-70-pe [Post edited 6 Oct 8:55]
