The haze in old photos always fascinates me. I can’t remember whether we used to walk around enveloped in smog, or just that the traditional photo tech used to produce that look. I’m guessing the latter. All my photos from the 70s and early 80s have that atmospheric look.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Air pollution was bad, soot mainly from burning coke, and leaded petrol. When it rained the footpaths were covered with wet soot it made everything look grey.
I loved the north stand. My first game in 1968 it was the last game in div.2. I think it was 1-1 against Blackpool or Blackburn. We won promotion that day. Ray Crawford may have played his last game for us as well that day.
I can't comment on the noise as I emigrated to Australia in 1982 so have never experienced the latest north/churchmans ends to compare ity. I have however noticed the away support is much improved since I left.

To be fair coke is still an issue around the NS but for totally different reasons.

How exciting it was to graduate from Churchmans to North. Favourite NS memory would have to be Newcastle at home in 92 en route to promotion. Sunny April day, swaying terrace, 3-2 win. TWTD
